To begin using Creative Command, you’ll first need to customize a preset.
A Preset is a saved set of rules that defines:
- Which [[Adding App and Sites|apps and websites]] should be allowed or blocked
- The type of timer to use ([[Choosing a Timer|Standard or Engagement]])
Presets help you stay focused by making it easy to launch sessions with consistent settings, so you don't need to reconfigure every time. If you're a Premium subscriber, you can create multiple presets for different types of work, like writing, studying, or deep focus.
Once your Preset is ready, you can start a session [[Starting Sessions|instantly]] or [[Scheduling Sessions|schedule]] it to begin automatically.

### Managing Your Presets
**Click “Presets”** from the menu bar drop-down.
Creative Command includes a default preset. If you’re using the **free version**, this will be the only preset available, but you can fully customize it.
If you’re a **Premium user**, you can add new presets by clicking the **plus icon (+)** or remove existing ones using the **minus icon (–)** at the bottom of the sidebar.
All your presets appear in the sidebar on the left, each labeled with a name. Selecting a preset loads its settings on the right, where you can adjust the timer type, allowed apps and sites, engagement tracking, and more.
You’ll also notice two icons near the top left of the window. These let you quickly switch between [[Creating Presets|Presets]] and [[Scheduling Sessions|Schedule]] view, where you can set up scheduled sessions to run your presets automatically.

### Name Your Preset
Choose a name that reflects the kind of work you’ll be doing, for example:
**“Writing”**, **“Homework”**, or **“Boring Day Job”**
You can also name your preset after a specific app or goal. For instance:
- If you’re only allowing the **[Beat app](https://www.beat-app.fi)** , you might call it **“✍️ Beat”**
- If you’re blocking a specific site like [**bsky.app**](https://bsky.app), you might call it **“🦋 Block Bsky”**
Use whatever naming system helps you quickly recognize each preset’s purpose.
